Intro: What separates good players from being great are small details. If you want to get to the next level, you need to prepare for it. PD1 Smart Soccer is a new way to run scrimmages/games. The whole purpose is to get players thinking in a way coaches at the next level want them to think. At PD1, great emphasis is placed on making the best possible decision, checking your shoulder, communicating with teammates, playing with your head up, playing with freedom, and having FUN. All of these things help build your soccer IQ. The game is so much more than just what you do with the ball at your feet.

How it works: When PD1 Smart Soccer is run for games, there is a smart soccer referee who not only blows the whistle for fouls but also when players are not playing Smart Soccer.

Examples:

• if a player has a teammate that is wide open and it’s the best decision to pass to that teammate, but the player decides to dribble into traffic, the referee will blow the whistle and it will be a turnover going the other way.

• if a player has the ball and their teammate is wide open, but that wide-open teammate is silent and does not call for the ball, the referee will blow the whistle and it will be a turnover.

One of the most important aspects of PD1 Smart Soccer and PD1 overall is fun.
